Esta adaptação do clássico romance de Virginia Woolf conta a história do jovem aristocrata Orlando que começa uma jornada épica, por amor e liberdade na corte de Elizabeth I, como homem, vindo a completá-la 400 anos mais tarde, como mulher, estilhaçando o seu destino biológico e cultural. À diferença de outros filmes, verificamos que não há uma distinção entre o olhar activo e o passivo devido à transformação de género. O filme traduz poderosamente o universo modernista de Virgina Woolf, no que respeita à desestabilização da subjectividade. Orlando, com os seus comentários à câmara, remete para outras referências literárias como o Otelo de Shakespeare ou o poeta Alexander Pope. 

UM FILME NA BOCA

Trata-se de um desafio à Escola de Hotelaria de VRSA, convidando os alunos a criarem 5 petiscos, 5 sobremesas e 5 cocktails, inspirados no filme “Orlando”, de Sally Potter, baseado no livro homónimo de Virginia Woolf. Após o filme, poderemos degustar os menus inspirados no filme no Mercado Municipal de Tavira (13h). Durante o FICLA (2 a 11 de Junho), o menu vencedor integrará a carta do restaurante Nó de Gosto em Tavira.

Yusuke Kafuku (Hidetoshi Nishijima), actor e encenador japonês, chega a Hiroshima para pôr em cena a peça “O Tio Vânia”, de Anton Tchekhov. Como motorista, é-lhe apresentada Misaki Watari (Toko Miura), uma jovem com quem rapidamente cria laços. Nas viagens a seu lado, Yusuke vai partilhando memórias do seu passado com Oto (Reika Kirishima), sua companheira de vida e de trabalho, falecida há algum tempo. 

Seleccionado para competição no Festival de Cinema de Cannes, onde recebeu o Prémio de melhor argumento, o Prémio FIPRESCI e o Prémio do Júri Ecuménico, este filme de Ryusuke Hamaguchi inspira-se no conto com o mesmo nome incluído na obra “Homens sem Mulheres”, escrita por Haruki Murakami. “Drive My Car” recebeu o Globo de Ouro na categoria de melhor filme estrangeiro e está nomeado para quatro Óscares: melhor filme e filme internacional (Japão), realização e argumento adaptado.
